As a step towards development the reconstruction work of the Thakbasta Building in a new form is progressing in full swing. Construction work of second floor on the building is going to be started and is expected to be completed before the new academic session.
Extension work of girls hostel is being done for more accommodation of girl students. For the construction of Gymnasium Hall on the southern part of the college adjacent to Netaji Subhas Centenary Building, plan and estimate have been sanctioned for deposit work. The necessary amount of rupees has also been deposited to P.W.D. for construction work. Microbiology Laboratory has been renovated with modem technological instruments and Professor Swapan Kumar Pramanik, Honb'le Vice-Chancellor of Vidyasagar University inaugurated the Lab on 14th September, 2006. P.G. Course in Chemistry has been started with the affiliation of Vidyasagar University in 2006.
Chemistry Lab for UG and PG was renovated last year. A Deep Tube well has been installed inside the college campus with the generous help of the Midnapore College Alumni Association.
Academic Activities of the Teachers
Dr. Swamp Poria, Lecturer in Mathematics presented a paper on Adaptive Synchronization of two coupled chaotic neuronal systems in the International Symposium on Recent Advances in Mathematics and its Applications (ISRAMA 2006) organized by Calcutta Mathematical Society on 16th & 18th December, 2006.
Dr. Poria visited the Institute of Mathematical Sciences (IMSc) C.I.T. Campus, Taramani, and Chennai as an Associate under IMSc Associate ship Programme for University Teachers during the period from 28.9.06 to 2.11.2006.
Dr. Sudhir Chandra Pal, Reader in Chemistry, authored a book. Nomenclature of Organic Compounds from Narosa Publication Pvt. Ltd., New Delhi in 2006.
Dr. Anup Kumar Dasmahapatra has written a paper, "Arylazoimidazole compounds of rhenium nitrosyls : Synthesis, spectral characterization and reactivity" accepted for publication in Polyhedron, 2006.
Dr. Tanusri Pal, Lecturer in Physics, published a paper, "Studies on surface micro morphology and growth mechanism of nonlinear crystal : L-arginine hydrochlorobromo monohydrate" in the Journal of Crystal Growth in 2006 and also "Studies on mechanical properties of an organic optical crystal" in Materials Science and Engineering A in 2006.
Dr. Pal participated in International Symposium on 'Nox Oxido and Optical Glasses9 at Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore from 10th April to 14th April, 2006.
Prof. Paritosh Dutta, Sl. Grade Lecturer in Physics and Dr. Subhadipta Mukhopadhyay, Lecturer in Physics, participated in UGC sponsored National Seminar on ' Undergraduate Physics Education and Advancement in Physics Research' held in Kolkata.
Prof. Somnath Mitra, Sr. Lecturer in Geography participated in International Seminar at Calcutta University from 11th to 13th January, 2007.
Dr. Asoke Das, Reader and Dr. Indrani Das, Sr. Lecturer in Botany and Sk. Ruhul Amin, Part-time lecturer in Botany jointly published a paper, 'Survey of Algal resources along the coast of Digha-Sankarpur Development Authority9 in the Journal of lnteracademicia, 2006.
Dr. Amal Kanti Chakraborty, Reader in English, authored a book, Wordsworth and the Modem Reader and published a paper on 'Robinson Crusoe and his Complex World' in the Journal of Vidyasagar University English Teachers' Consortium. He presented a paper also on 'Wordsworth and the Modem Sensibility9 in the state level seminar in 2006 at Garbeta College. He participated in the International Seminar on Romantic Literature on 7th and 8th February, 2006 at Jadavpur University.
Prof. Rajendranath Dutta, Selection Grade Lecturer in English published an article on Re' reading Moll Flanders in the Journal of VUETC in 2006 and presented a paper on Comparative Study of Wordsworth and Frost in the State Level Seminar in 2006 at Garbeta College.
Prof. Asoke Bhattacharya, Selection Grade Lecturer in Bengali, authored a book Puran Protimay Rabindranath from Banishilpa, Calcutta, edited Lokenath Bhattacharya Rechanabali, Vol. IV, published papers, Bhasa 0 Chhanda: Rabindra Kavita' in Shahitya Parishad Patrika, Calcutta, 'Shilpa OSahitya9 in the Bengali Journal of Calcutta University, delivered UGC sponsored Seminar lectures on (Post-Independence Indian Fiction9 in Kharagpur College, Refresher Course lectures on 'Colonial and Neo-Colonial Bengali literature' at Calcutta University, all in 2006.
Dr. Susnata Jana, Reader in Bengali, published many articles among which the important are 'Jalrang' published in Desh Patrika, 17th Nov. 2006, 'Pathakriti: Uttar Adhunik Nandan Biplab\ ^ChuarBidrohft\W Biplabi Sabyasachi, Sarad Sankhya, 2006, and many others.
He delivered a seminar lecture on the Relevance of Rabindra charcha (culture) organised by the East Midnapore Culture and Information Centre in 2006.
Prof. Amar Kumar Saha, Lecturer in Bengali, published essays on R.K. Narayan :
Personality and Literature in Jibandarpan, 2006, seven stories in Nayan, Sarad Sankhya, 2006 and many others.
Dr. Subha Ghosh, Lecturer in Zoology published ten articles among which a) Lesch-Nyhan Syndrome : A Rare Genetic disorder (b) Blue footed Booby : A tale of wonderful bird (c) Disease free brain and natural activity in Old age: An introspection (d) Bats also scientists in Science Journal of Bangiya Bigyan Parishad. He presented seminar papers in National Seminar on Medicinal Plants held in Midnapore College and also in 94th Indian Science Congress organized by I»S.C.A, at Chidambaram, Tamil Nadu.
Dr. Manishree Mandal, Sr. Lecturer in Geography, has written a paper on Women Environment Relationship : A case study of Anagram Block of Paschim Medinipur^ West Bengal9 accepted for publication in the .(pumal of Geography and Environment Management, Vidyasagar University.
Dr. Biswarup Sarkar, Sr. Lecturer in Physiology, published a paper, Modulation of gastric mucosal mast cell population : Role of Vestibulo-cerebellar lesion" in Indian Journal of Experimental Biology Vol. 44.2006.
Prof. Saptadip Samanta, Lecturer in Physiology published a paper on Characterization of immobilized: any lax from newly isolated Baciluss in Sp. SKB4.
Sri Shyamalendu Ghosh, Laboratory Instructor of Zoology Dept. has been adjudged the best director for directing a play named Bagha Tentuler Gappo organised jointly by the West Bengal Govt. and Anik Natya Sangstha, Kolkata.

The Dept. of Botany organised National Seminar on Medicinal Plants in March, 2006.
The Dept. of Microbiology organised State Level Seminar on 'Microbes, Humans and Environment9 in September, 2006.
A one day National Workshop on Intellectual Property Rights was held in August, 2006 jointly organised by W.B. State Council of Science and Technology, DST, W.B. Technology Information, Forecasting and Assessment Council, DST, Govt. of India and Midnapore College.
A one day Seminar on Preservation of old manuscripts and books jointly organised by National Mission for Manuscripts, Calcutta University and Midnapore College was held in September, 2006.
A seminar on' Women's- present position in India was held in March, 2006.
LAPT-Midnapore College Centre for Scientific Culture observed National Science Day in February, 2006.
Prof. C.K. Majumder Memorial Summer Workshop in Experimental Physics was held from June 26 to July 012006.
On 6th and 7th January, 2007 tenth Biennial District Conference of Non-Teaching Staff of Paschim Medinipur was held in our college. Most of our staff performed cultural Functions, participated in lectures and debates. They expressed their whole hearted desire for the improvement of college education. On this occasion they published a colorful souvenir.
The students of Midnapore College organized a wide blood donation camp on the college campus on 6-9-2006 and 486 students donated blood. Saheli Bera, a student of 3rd year Bengali Hons. was adjudged first in Classical Dance in the 8th Inter-College Cultural Competition held at Vidyasagar University from 15th to 16th Sept., 2006. She was also selected for participation in the East Zone Inter-Varsity Youth Festival, 2006 at Birala Institute of Technology, Ranchi.
Sri Manas Karmakar and Sri Subhadip Basu, third year students of our college, have been selected as best actors and Smt. Sricheta Banerjee as the best actress for their acting skill in the play, Bagha Tentuler Gappo staged in the Ninth Ganga Yamuna Natya Utsav, 2006 organised by Anik Natya Sangstha. For direction, production and acting our college won the First Position in the State Level Drama competition.
Our students organised and participated in impromptu Lecture, Poster exhibition. Quiz contest, debate and discussion of Bignan Bivagiya Parishad of our College. Our students' performance is praiseworthy in games and sports and the same is given in annexure pages.
Being a service oriented educational institution; Midnapore College has adopted some outreach programmes beyond the routine-wise college education and extended its activities in health and hygiene, science awareness programmes, literacy campaign, environment awareness etc. as a part of community development and need.
In July 2006 our College launched outreach programmes in the Gurguripal High school of remote village where Dr. Subhash Chandra Samanta, former Reader in Physics, Dr. Jayashree Laha, Senior Lecturer in Chemistry, Dr. Manoj Kr. Roy, Reader in Chemistry and Prof. Paritosh Dutta, Sl. Grade Lecturer in Physics demonstrated certain experiments on science to the students to arouse their interest in science subjects. Prof. Saptadeep Samanta, Lecturer in Physiology, spoke about the blood group, tried to remove certain prejudices about blood group and successfully examined blood group of students. Prof. Asoke Bhattacharya, Sl. Grade Lecturer in Bengali focused on the Bengali pronunciation and spelling and drew attention to the common errors in Bengali spelling and pronunciation. Dr. Amal Kanti Chakraborty, Reader in English, discussed how to speak and write English in the easiest manner possible.
In December 2006 Dr. Subhas Chandra Samanta, Prof. Saptadeep Samanta did the same experimental works in High Madrasa Midnapore where my self also spoke on the elementary matters of Physics. Prof. Pinaki Ranjan Das, Sl. Grade Lecturer in Zoology, Dr. Asok Kr. Das, Reader in Botany, Sri Gangapada Tripathy, former Lab. Instructor of our college. Prof. Satyaranjan Ghosh, Sl. Grade Lecturer in History and Prof. Asoke Bhattacharya showed experiments and spoke on their relevant subjects.
From 13th to 15th January, 2007 Dr. Subhas Chandra Samanta and some PG students of Physics visited to Panchberia High School and conducted Science Workshop for the backward community students and my self also participated in that workshop.
It is also to be noted that our college has been selected again as host college to hold the VIIIth Inter Non-Govt. College Athletic Meet and Football Championship, of this year under the aegis of DPI, Govt. of West Bengal.
A brief statement regarding our Income and Expenditure is appended to this report. We enclose also statements regarding academic, cultural and athletic performances and other relevant matters.
We fervently appeal to the guardians, well-wishers, generous public and our ex-students to assist us by their contribution to raise the fund we require for developmental works as much as possible.
